- a grossly distended gallbladder
- retroperitoneal tumour arising in the lymph nodes or soft tissues of the pelvis or the posterior abdominal wall
- aneurysm of the external or common iliac artery
- ruptured epigastric artery
- chondroma ilium
- malignant change in undescended testis
