costal pleura

Costal pleura describes the strong and most extensive portion of the parietal pleural membrane that lines:

  • the inside of the sternum
  • the deep surface of the costal cartilage
  • the innermost aspect of the ribs
  • the deepest layer of the intercostal spaces
  • the lateral margins of the thoracic vertebrae to the level of the bodies
