Some information concerning the prognosis in asthma is given below:
- the mortality rate in the UK is 2-3 per 100,000 per year
- the prognosis in childhood asthma is good, with most being symptom-free in adulthood
- late-onset asthma is generally chronic; it usually requires more aggressive treatment
- modern therapy improves the quality of life but does not seem to alter mortality from asthma
