Reconstructions above the groin generally perform better than those below. One year and five year patency rates for aorto-iliac segment reconstructions are, respectively, 90% and 80%; corresponding figures for femoro-popliteal segment reconstruction are 80% and 50%.
The results of vascular grafts involving the tibial and dorsalis pedis arteries have been poor. The technique should be used only as an alternative to major amputation.
