complications

Early complications include:

• patent ductus arteriosus with congestive heart failure
• pneumothorax
• pulmonary interstitial emphysema
• lobar collapse
• cerebroventricular haemorrhage

Late complications are principally the result of oxygen toxicity and barotrauma leading to chronic lung disease, ie bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
