third (3rd) branchial arch artery (embryology)

The third branchial arch arteries are the third pair to form, and as would be expected, they are sited in the third pair of branchial arches.
After birth, they contribute to the:
- common carotid arteries
- proximal part of the internal carotid arteries
- external carotid arteries
