These have a cephalic curvature with a minimal pelvic curve, thus they are used for rotation.
This is NOT a manual for the use of forceps, however, as a summary of the use of these forceps, there are several ways of using them.
The classical method of putting them on has been discredited due to potential damage to the birth canal in the rotation.
The wandering method, where the anterior blade is first inserted posteriorly and then wandered over the face to lie anteriorly. The forceps are then very gently rotated through 90 degrees or 180 degrees until the foetal head is in the occipito-anterior position and then traction applied as with Neville Barnes forceps.
