examination of the eyes

Examination of the eyes may reveal:
- yellow sclerae suggests jaundice, possibly due to:
- hepatic engorgement due to cardiac failure
- haemolysis over prosthetic heart valves
- xanthelasma are intracutaneous deposits of cholesterol which may be a normal finding or may be a sign of type II or III hyperlipidaemia
- conjunctival pallor suggests anaemia (1)
