haemorrhage

Last reviewed 01/2018

Haemorrhage is a common presenting feature of DIC, reported to be a presenting feature in 90% of cases in some series.

It is often noted in the skin, where manifestations vary from purpura to massive ecchymoses.

Haemorrhage into the gastro-intestinal tract is common whilst that from venepuncture sites or wounds is highly suggestive of DIC.
