Salmonella spp (nontyphoidal)
- antibiotic therapy is indicated only in high-risk children to reduce the risk of bacteremia and extraintestinal focal infections
- preferred therapy – ceftriaxone
- alternative agents - azithromycin, ciprofloxacin (1)
Salmonella typhi
- preferred therapy – third-generation cephalosporins
- alternative agents - chloramphenicol (2)
Salmonellosis is a notifiable disease
