clinical features of alcohol poisoning

Clinical features of acute alcohol poisoning include:

  • ataxia and anaesthesia leading to accidental injury
  • dysarthria and nystagmus
  • drowsiness which may progress to coma
  • inhalation of vomit which can be fatal - maintain airway by keeping patient in the recovery position
  • hypoglycaemia in children and some adults - check BM stix and give 50% glucose i.v. if required
