clinical features of alcohol poisoning

Clinical features of acute alcohol poisoning include:
- ataxia and anaesthesia leading to accidental injury
- dysarthria and nystagmus
- drowsiness which may progress to coma
- inhalation of vomit which can be fatal - maintain airway by keeping patient in the recovery position
- hypoglycaemia in children and some adults - check BM stix and give 50% glucose i.v. if required
