There are both central and peripheral causes of a tenth cranial nerve palsy:
- central causes including:
- tumours
- vascular lesions
- syringobulbia
- motor neuron disease
- peripheral - posterior fossa - causes including:
- tumours
- aneurysms
- chronic meningitis
- Guillain-Barre syndrome
