Immediate management is basic life support.

Notes:

• Emergency laryngotomy may be sometimes considered:
  • for cases where foreign body is impacted in larynx
  • preferable to tracheotomy in non-specialist hands as the cricothyroid membrane is more superficial than the trachaea
