glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase carrier system
Last reviewed 01/2018
The glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase carrier system is a cycle that relies on this enzyme, sited in both cytoplasm and mitochondria, to convey reducing equivalents in the form of FADH into mitochondria.
It is a means of recycling NADH to NAD within the cytoplasm and so permits continued flux through glycolysis. It is less frequently used and provides less energy than the malate-aspartate carrier system.
