hand fractures (immediate treatment)

A facture may be indicated by any hand injury with:
- suspicious swelling or bruising
- deformity or
- significant loss of function
Management:
- refer to A/E dept to identify significant fractures (most undisplaced fractures will be treated with splinting or strapping and so Xrays are only needed where surgical intervention is being considered)
- immobilisation spica splint or strapping for fractured phalanges velcro hand/wrist splint for undisplaced fracture of metacarpal
- internal fixation
