Vomiting can lead to:

• hypokalaemia } dealt with principally by the kidneys,
• hypochloraemia } but there is some reduction in the
• alkalosis } respiratory rate. It is hard to maintain any of these ions without disturbing the others; most important to maintain potassium
• Mallory-Weiss syndrome
• aspiration
