Active treatment may be indicated in gross visceral larva migrans or ocular disease. Oral thiabendazole daily for one week - or albendazole are two possible drugs. Steroids are frequently given in tandem to suppress the increase in inflammation secondary to ocular larval death.
Prophylactic treatment of children who accidentally ingest animal faeces is not warranted.
