clinical features

As with all neonatal illness, there is a limited repertoire of reaction, and the underlying pathology can be hard to determine. Some of the more noticeable features include:

  • irritability
  • lethargy
  • vomiting
  • anorexia
  • seizures
  • apnoea
  • jaundice
  • absent Moro reflex
  • opisthotonus

After the age of one month features may also include:

  • a full fontanelle
  • fever
  • shrill cry
