The inhibins are complex hormones with three polypeptide subunits involved in negative feedback of the gonads on the anterior pituitary.
In the action is to reduce the production of follicle stimulating hormone by the anterior pituitary.
In males it is made by the sertoli cells of the testes; in females by the granulosa cells of the ovarian follicle. Levels are highest in females a few days after ovulation.
