Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter.
Functions:
- neurotransmitter at autonomic ganglia
- transmitter at the neuroeffector junction of all post- ganglionic parasympathetic fibres
- transmitter at the neuromuscular junction
- acetylcholine is the neurotransmitter at sympathetic vasodilator fibres to blood vessels. It is also the neurotransmitter for the sympathetic fibres which stimulate sweating.
Acetylcholine is hydrolysed by acetylcholinesterase to choline and acetic acid.
