In most cases, explanation and symptomatic treatment if necessary. Often in cases of benign positional vertigo there may be no requirement for pharmacological intervention if the condition is explained and the patient reassured.
Symptomatic treatment with betahistine and/or prochlorperazine may be used in cases of recurrent vertigo.
Management will also be directed to any identified underlying cause e.g. vertigo associated transient ischaemic attacks will benefit from treatment with aspirin.
