amelia

Last reviewed 01/2018

Amelia is the complete failure of generation of a limb. It may be seen at the extreme end of a number of conditions, such as sacral regression sequence, or be due to extrinisic factors such as thalidomide exposure. It is form of transverse arrest in the IFSSH-Swanson scheme for classifying congential hand anomalies.

Treatment is predominantly non-surgical with early introduction of an orthotic prosthesis.
