scrotal skin

Last reviewed 01/2018

The skin of the scrotum is examined - normally wrinkled and freely mobile over the testes.

Note if skin is reddened, fixed or tethered - indicating a probable deep abnormality. When examining the scrotum remember that any other condition that may affect the skin may also affect the scrotum, e.g. carcinoma, furunculosis, sebaceous cyst. Pitting oedema of the scrotum may be secondary to cardiac failure or nephrotic syndrome.

Always examine the posterior of the scrotum.

If there are any lumps or ulcers then examine as for any other found at any site.
