major risk factors for osteoporosis

  • Previous fragility fracture
  • Untreated hypogonadism (premature menopause, secondary ammenorrhea, primary hypogonadism in women, hypogonadism in men)
  • Glucocorticoids (7.5mg orednisolone daily for > 6 months)
  • Disease associated with increased prevalence of osteoporosis (e.g. GI disease, Chronic liver disease, hyperparathyroidism, hyperthyroidism)
  • Radiological osteopenia
