Prolonged inflammation may result in:

  • glaucoma - either due to impediment of aqueous outflow at the anterior chamber angle from peripheral anterior synechiae or due to impedement of aqueous outflow from the posterior to the anterior chamber

  • cataract - from interference with lens metabolism

  • retinal detachment - due to traction on the retina by vitreous strands

  • macular oedema and degeneration (1)
