Patients should identify and avoid exposure to the exacerbating factors (1).

Vitamin A acid cream has been successful in some patients but irritation may force cessation of therapy.

Salicylic acid in a propylene gel may be used to remove crusts and scale, and antibacterial soaps to cleanse the skin. Also, synthetic retinoids such as isotretinoin are effective. There is evidence of benefit for the use of topical 0.05% isotretinoin and systemic isotretinoin (2).

Laser excision and photodynamic therapy can also be used in the treatment of Darier's disease (3)
