venous stars
Last reviewed 01/2018
Venous stars are star-like lesions that occur on the dorsum of the feet, legs, back and lower chest on sites overlying the main tributary to a large vein. They result from raised venous pressure.
The lesions are usually 2 to 3 cm in diameter. Blood flow is from the periphery of the lesion to its centre and is not obliterated by pressure.
