The typical lesion are crusty, painless ulcers on exposed skin. There may be small satellite ulcers. Local lymphadenopathy only occurs in the presence of bacterial superinfection.
Ulcers usually heal within 8 months, leaving a scar.
Distinct forms of cutaneous leishmaniasis include:
- recidivans leishmaniasis
- diffuse cutaneous leishmaniasis
