actinic prurigo

Last reviewed 01/2018

Actinic prurigo is a rare idiopathic photodermatosis. Persistent pruritic papules or nodules may develop in covered and exposed areas, usually in the first decade. Photosensitivity may be severe. The condition may be perennial. It has been associated with the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) subtype DRB1*0407 (1).

Actinic prurigo is managed again by restriction of UVR and the use of high SPF sunscreens; PUVA or broadband UVB therapy, or low doses of thalidomide may be necessary.
