retinal traumatic lesions

Commotio retinae describes retinal oedema and haemorrhage following a contusion. The site of damage is opposite that of impact - "contra-coup" - and a whitish cloud is seen obscuring the red fundus pattern. The oedema normally resolves without complication but may produce scarring, pigmentary change, and visual loss.
Retinal tears are more likely in predisposed eyes with areas of retinal weakness, especially high myopes. Treatment is necessary to preclude retinal detachment.
Retinal holes may also occur.
