Oral therapy is generally sufficient.

  • quinine salt: 600 mg tds for one week
  • areas of quinidine resistance: followed by treatment with either Fansidar or (if Fansidar-resistant) doxycycline

Note tetracycline should not be given to children under 12 years old or to pregnant mothers.
