The glomerular filtration rate usually returns to normal within 10 to 14 days.

Progressive glomerulonephritis is rare but serious; if the patient fails to recover, a renal biopsy should be performed.

Prognosis is good, with between 92% and 98% of patients recovering completely.

The haematuria may persist assymptomatically for up to two years, even though C3 levels return to normal in six weeks.
