Ruffini Endings
Last reviewed 01/2018
A Ruffini Ending is a terminal varicosity of a myelinated nerve fibre which forms a specialised structure for movement sensation within joints and the dermis of the skin. At the point of formation, the incoming nerve fibre loses its myelinated coat and divides up into several unmyelinated nerve fibres. The latter wind around collagen fibres in a spindle-like structure up to one millimetre in length.
