Protein-losing enteropathy desribes a condition where a abnormal bowel mucosa allows increased protein loss.
Causes include:
- with mucosal ulceration:
- Crohn's disease
- ulcerative colitis
- tumours
- Menetrier's disease
- without mucosal ulceration:
- coeliac disease
- tropical sprue
- villous adenoma of colon
- fistulae
- with lymphatic problems:
- lymphoma
- intestinal lymphangiectasia
