investigations in chronic bronchitis

Investigations - looking for:
- hypercapnia
- hypoxaemia with polycythaemia
- elevated plasma bicarbonate
- sometimes severe nocturnal hypoxaemia
- moderate airways obstruction
- approximately normal lung capacity
- little or no reduction in transfer factor
