loss of only dorsal columns

Causes of only dorsal column loss in spinal cord disease includes:

  • peripheral neuropathy:
    • diabetes mellitus
    • hypothyroidism
  • subacute degeneration of the spinal cord
  • multiple sclerosis
  • Brown-Sequard syndrome - the ipsilateral leg
  • tabes dorsalis
  • spinocerebellar degeneration e.g. Friedreich's ataxia
