post-procedure

The patient's peripheral pulses must be checked beyond the catheter site. The site must be checked for bleeding.

Generally, the patient will be asked to lie still for some hours after the procedure to prevent bleeding. Often cardiac catheterisation is carried out as a day patient. Important factors for the patient are the proximity of the hospital and the need for transport in the evening.

Intravenous access should be removed as soon as it is no longer needed.
