Associations include:

• intraventricular haemorrhage - the increased blood flow in hyperoxia may be the link here
• bronchopulmonary dysplasia - the amount of time spent on a ventilator may be the linking factor here. Ventilation of more than 28 days results in a four-fold increase in the occurrence of retinopathy of prematurity.
• metabolic acidosis
• patent ductus arteriosus
• social situation of parents - only an association due to the links between class and prematurity.
