pulmonary artery stenosis

Last reviewed 01/2023

Stenoses can occur in any part of the arterial tree, but most commonly occur at the bifurcation of the main pulmonary artery or within the lung. Obstruction causes a corresponding degree of right ventricular hypertension.

If the condition is severe and longstanding then right ventricular failure may develop. If the obstruction is intrapulmonary then it cannot be relieved surgically.
