localisation of the lesion
Last reviewed 01/2018
Visual agnosias are usually caused by lesions in the parietal lobes in the visual association cortex.
There is some evidence for lateralization of visual processing:
- lesions in the dominant parietal lobe are more likely to interfere with the understanding of:
- objects
- colour
- letters
- lesions in the non-dominant parietal lobe are more likely to interfere with the understanding of:
- unusual views of objects
- place
- face recognition
