The lesions are induced by continual scratching or rubbing of a localised area of pruritic skin. They are often solitary, lichenified and slightly elevated. The most common site is at the nape of the neck; less frequently, the forearms, wrists, and ankles are affected. Scalp, vulva, pubis, and scrotum too may be affected (1). The lesions are usually reddish purple and hyperpigmented. The patient is often said to be tense and obsessive.

Pruritus is the main symptom, and it is characterized by paroxysmal attacks (1).
