crura

The crura are tendinous portions of the diaphragm in the lumbar region. They can be subdivided into:

  • right crus
  • left crus

The medial surface of both crura contribute to the median arcuate ligament. They blend with the anterior longitudinal ligament of the vertebral column.

The right crus has a more extensive origin than the left. This is because the liver is right sided and a key action of the right crus is to aid the descent of the liver with inspiration.
