Oestrogens are used for:
- contraception in women
- replacement:
- hypo-ovarian conditions
- menopausal or post-menopausal symptoms
- menstrual disorders
- acne
- treatment of cancer:
- prostatic - acting as an anti-androgen
- breast; the use of tamoxifen as an anti-oestrogen
- treatment of infertility: clomiphene interferes with the normal central feedback mechanism of oestrogens, so inducing ovulation
