85% of diarrhoea positive haemolytic uraemic syndrome patients make a good permanent recovery.
70% of diarrhoea negative haemolytic uraemic syndrome patients develop chronic renal failure.
Poor prognostic indicators are the duration for which dialysis is required. Oliguria lasting more than two weeks and an age of onset over five years have also been suggested to indicate poor prognosis.
