The general features of thrombotic stroke is:
- variable presentation - can be a single attack of sudden onset with preserved consciousness and not infrequently, headache, or the deficit may evolve gradually over a few hours or days - a stuttering stoke is common;
- history of TIA's
- typical story is of patient awakening to discover symptoms, e.g. hemiplegia
- seizures are uncommon
Precise effects depend upon the arterial artery occluded.
