pharmacokinetic phase
Last reviewed 01/2018
The pharmacokinetic phase of drug therapy considers whether the drug is getting to the site of action, and how long it is staying there to have an effect.
Drugs can enter the body:
- via absorption, which means there are problems of metabolism in the liver and gut, plus the additional complexity in some cases of enterohepatic circulation
- intravenously
Pharmacokinetics must also take account of elimination.
