intravascular vs. extravascular haemolysis

Most commonly haemolysis occurs within the mononuclear phagocytic cells of the spleen, this is termed extravascular.
Intravascular haemolysis is less common, requiring mechanical or immune disruption of the red cells within the vascular system.
