Occasionally a sore white eye may be caused by:

  • low-grade blephero-conjunctivitis
  • low-grade iritis
  • mild glaucoma where the rise in intra-ocular pressure is too mild to cause congestion, may make the eye ache
  • optic neuritis - here there is usually some visual disturbances
  • pain around the eyeball may result from a neuralgia from adjacent sinusitis
