• long-term warfarin treatment - note that protein C is vitamin K dependent and thus treatment with warfarin may cause a further decrease in protein C levels and therefore an increased risk of thrombosis Warfarinisation should be covered with concurrent heparin treatment during the initial 10 days
• some centres have used protein C replacement therapy
