drugs and chemicals causing diabetes

A number of drugs and chemicals are either diabetogenic or produce diabetes via a direct toxic effect on beta cells. For example:
- steroids which most often produce diabetes when used in patients with organ transplants
- thiazide diuretics
- phenytoin
- diazoxide which inhibits insulin secretion
- streptozotocin
